This course covers the fundamentals of motor control and variable frequency drive (VFD) technology. It covers essential topics such as electric motor control, manual motor control and overload protection, control relays and motor starters, reversing motor control, automatic input devices, and AC variable frequency drives. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications to prepare students for careers in industrial automation and motor control systems.

Prerequisite: Take a basic electrical and safety knowledge test
Required material: Notebook and pen. Hands-on skills guides will be provided to students.
Dress code: Long pants and closed shoes.

Objectives

After completing this class student will be able to demonstrate or perform the following:
  • Understand the fundamentals of electric motor control.
  • Implement manual motor control and overload protection techniques.
  • Utilize control relays and motor starters effectively.
  • Understand and connect reversing motor control circuits.
  • Integrate automatic input devices into motor control systems.
  • Understand the principles and applications of AC variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Control speed and torque using VFDs.
