The role of a Peer Support Specialist is unique and impactful. You will leverage your own lived
experience with mental health or substance use recovery to offer empathy, encouragement, and guidance to others facing similar challenges. Your journey prepares you to be a beacon of hope and a powerful advocate for recovery.
This course is designed to fully equip you for this vital role. Through a combination
of online modules and interactive sessions, you will gain essential skills in:
•
Active Listening and Communication
: Learning how to truly hear and respond to the needs of
others.
• Ethical Guidelines and Boundaries:
Understanding professional standards to ensure safety and
trust.
• Advocacy and Resources:
Connecting individuals to necessary support systems and empowering
them to advocate for themselves.
• Recovery Principles:
Deepening your understanding of the recovery process and strengths-based
approaches.
The hybrid format offers the flexibility of self-paced learning along with the opportunity for collaborative
discussion and hands-on practice with your peers and instructors.
*Included with this training: CPR (including Stop the Bleed and Narcan training) and Mental Health First Aid Training
Also includes cost of your PRSS-I Application and Exam fee
Prerequisites:
Adults with personal lived experience of mental health and/or substance use recovery (or family experience where applicable).
Minimum recovery time of 2 years.
Minimum education: high school diploma or GED).
Ability to attend synchronous (live) skills sessions and local practicum of 500 supervised hours.
