MECHANICAL ASSEMBLER 1

Course Overview:

The Mechanical Assembler Training course is an entry-level, employer-focused program designed to prepare participants to assemble mechanical components and subassemblies used in manufacturing. The course emphasizes safe work practices, proper tool use, accurate interpretation of manufacturing documents, precision measurement, component cleanliness, correct assembly sequence, and quality inspection.

Training progresses from industrial safety and shop mathematics to mechanical fastening, fluid-line installation, wiring harness, precision components, blueprints, bills of materials, and work instructions. The course concludes with a practical capstone in which participants complete and inspect an assembly using production-style documentation. Also, participants will develop foundational knowledge of mills, lathes, and CNC without focusing on CNC programming or machine operation.

Key Learning Outcomes

Graduates will complete the program job-ready, equipped to handle real-world shop-floor tasks, including:

Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, standard work instructions, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Proper selection, handling, and maintenance of hand, power, and precision torque tools.
Accurate component verification using precision measurement instruments.
Safe integration of wiring harnesses, fluid lines, and mechanical subassemblies.
Application of strict quality assurance and final inspection methods.

Curriculum Overview

Week 1: Safety (12 Hrs.)

Industrial Safety : Hazard identification, hand/power tool safety basics, and hazardous energy awareness.
PPE, Tool Safety & LOTO Deep Dive: Personal protective equipment selection, tool handling, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols.

Week 2-3: Tools, Shop Math, and Precision Measurement (14 Hrs.)

Shop Math Essentials: Practical calculations with fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, averages, shop geometry, and coordinate systems.
Machine Tools & CNC Basics: Distinguishing mills vs. lathes, axis movement, tailstocks, live tooling, and workholding principles (3-2-1 method).
Precision Inspection: Hands-on application of micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and blueprint-to-part verification

Weeks 4–5: Wiring, Fluid Lines & Mechanical Assembly (26 Hours)

Assembly workflows using BOMs and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Routing, crimping, and securing electrical wiring and cable harnesses.
Plumbing, connecting, and testing fluid/pneumatic lines.
Mechanical assembly, torque sequencing, troubleshooting, and quality sign-off.

Week 5: Capstone Project - Assembly and Inspection (8 hrs.)

Students will assemble an example module from drawings, a bill of materials, and written work instructions.
