This class will prepare the participant to place Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) via ultrasound guidance. The class will enable the participant to measure the internal diameter of veins on live subjects, distinguish other anatomic structures in the upper arms, and evaluate the placement for mal-position using the ultrasound. Techniques to improve and enhance visibility of the selected area will also place a PICC via simulation utilizing the ultrasound. Proper documentation of the PICC placement process via ultrasound will also be discussed. There will also be a brief discussion about viewing the tip position of various PICCs on x-ray. This class is supported via a grant from several ultrasound vendors to enable participants to utilize actual devices during the class. |
