The High School Equivalency (HSE/GED) classes prepare the student to take any of the HSE exams (GED, HI SET, TASC) for the subjects of Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science. Career exploration, computer and workplace skills are included in each class, as well as online curriculum to support the classroom instruction. Please see the course descriptions for classes offered at this site. Placement based on test results.

Classes offered at this location
 
HSE 100 Math:
This course reinforces skills in whole number, fractions, and decimals while introducing computation with rational numbers, exponents, order of operation, and the use of variables and equations. Ratio and proportions, percent, and topics in measurement are also studied. Students will prepare to move into HSE-200 Math based on their test results.
 
HSE 100 Reading and Writing for Health:
This course introduces the basic five-paragraph essay form while reinforcing sentence skills and paragraph development. Students will build on basic reading and writing skills needed to be successful in the Healthcare and Medical field.  Students will build on knowledge need for transitioning into the HSE-Health Care Bridge (Reading) class or HSE-200 Reading and Writing based on their test results.
 
HSE 200 Math:
This course covers advance math skills such as solving problems using geometric formulas and other word problems, data and statistics, understanding proportions, and solving linear and quadratic equations.  Working with real data, formulas, and applications will be stressed. Course covers the necessary skills to pass the Math portion of an HSE exam.
 
HSE 200 Reading and Writing:
This course reviews the basic conventions, purposes, and writing strategies. It perfects the basic five-paragraph essay form while reinforcing sentence skills and paragraph development, along with daily reading practice and instruction. Course covers the necessary skills to pass the Reading and Writing portions of an HSE exam.
 
How to Sign-Up
Follow these REQUIRED steps.
 
FIRST:
  1. Create an online profile. (Click here and then click on “login/create account” )
  2. Select Browse, Adult Literacy and Language. Choose the  Test/Orientation Event and “add to cart”
  3. Check out
 
NEXT:
  1. Attend the test and orientation event as listed above:
  • Bring your address, phone number and email address.
  • Bring your Social Security or Tax Id number if available. It is not required.
  • Please allow 2.5-3 hours to complete the test and sign-up paperwork.
Note:
Persons under 18 years of age must also bring:
  1. An official withdrawal slip from Clark County School District.
  2. Be accompanied by a legal parent or guardian to be eligible for classes through this program.
Note: Spaces are limited and are on a first come basis. Placement is based on test scores.
 
LAST:
Attend the first day of class! Unused seats will be made available to waitlisted students.
 
Note:
  • All students will compete a test to determine class assignment.
  • Class seats are limited and are not guaranteed.
  • Students need to attend the 1st day of class to complete enrollment.
  • Advisors will assist students who do not qualify with other course or site options.
  • No Childcare provided!
  • Students need to follow all CSN and site rules and regulations.
  • No fees for the class or textbooks.
