Sahara West HSE PM Class Information

The Adult Literacy & Language Program offers the High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation classes (formerly referred to as General Education Development or GED) at no cost to those who qualify. Class curriculum includes an on-line component for HSE test prep. Please read the information below for a list of current class offerings at this location.
 
Class Date:  4/2/2018 - 6/6/2018
Class schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Class time: 6:00PM-9:00PM
Term length: Approximately 10 weeks
 
Note: All students will participate in assessment testing to determine class assignment. A class assignment is not guaranteed. Advisors will assist students who do not qualify with other course options.

HSE 100 Math This class has an emphasis on: Number Concepts
Geometry
Fractions and Decimals Ratios and Proportions Percent
Algebra Measurement Data Analysis Financial Literacy
Classes will also complete a project based lesson, a Constitution lesson, and incorporate workplace skills and the College and Career Readiness Standard (CCRS).

 
HSE 100 Reading and Writing for Health The HSE Writing for Health Health class is designed to prepare students for the High School Equivalency exam while exploring careers in the healthcare and medical field. Students will develop basic reading and writing skills and knowledge need for transitioning into the Health Care Bridge class or HSE Wr200. This course will incorporate CCRS based instruction, workplace skills and includes an online component.
 
HSE 200 Math
This course has an emphasis on: Adv. Geometry
Trigonometry Data and Statistics Applied Statistics and probability
Polynomials and Rational Expressions. Linear Equations
Systems of Linear Equations. One Variable Inequalities.
Solving Quadratic Equations. Graphing on a Coordinate Plane. Interpreting/Writing Expressions. Functions
Classes will also complete a project based lesson, a Constitution lesson, and incorporate workplace skills and the College and Career Readiness Standard (CCRS) while preparing students to take the HSE exam.  
HSE 200 Reading/Writing
This course includes:
Rules for Grammar and Usage.
Rules for Capitalization and Punctuation.
Rules for the Colon, Dash, Hyphen, and Ellipsis. Rules for the Apostrophe and the Semicolon. Review of Spelling Rules.
Interpreting Words and Phrases. The Structure of Texts.
Organization and The Writing Process.
Elements of an Essay & WRITING PRACTICE TESTS Classes will also complete a project based lesson, a Constitution lesson, and incorporate workplace skills and the College and Career Readiness Standard (CCRS) while preparing students to take the HSE exam.  
 
How to make an appointment for the Registration/Assessment event

Follow these REQUIRED steps.

 
Click “Create New Profile” to create your own username, password and profile if new student.
Select “BROWSE
Select Adult Literacy & Language, find your class, then “add to cart”
Click the box: “Agree to refund policy”
Click CHECK OUT (at bottom on page)
Review your confirmation
NOTE: Student must have step 1 completed to attend the Registration/Assessment session.

2. Attend the one day registration and assessment event (approximately three hours).

3. Attend the first day of class.

Persons under 18 years of age must:
Bring an official withdrawal slip from Clark County School District the day of registration.
Be accompanied by a legal parent or guardian to be eligible for classes through this program.
 
Note: Spaces are limited and are on a first come basis. No Childcare Provided!
